Music group Minnewit performs light music with echoes from the distant past, deeply rooted in both Dutch and Frisian tradition. With the contemporary arrangements of our trio, these sound very surprising. By adding interesting and sometimes touching background stories in a light-hearted way, Minnewit puts on a lively performance.

The Minnewit music group performs light music with echoes from the distant past, deeply rooted in both Dutch and Frisian traditions. But much of that music was also well-known abroad. These were, in fact, the top hits from centuries past. With our trio’s contemporary arrangements, they sound quite surprising. By sharing interesting and sometimes moving background stories in a lighthearted way, Minnewit puts on a lively performance.
All three members of our group are experienced musicians. We live in Friesland and can present a program in both Dutch and (partly) Frisian.
Another unique aspect is that our music appeals to a broad audience, including fans of both folk and classical music.

In addition to performing light music from past centuries throughout the Netherlands, the group is now also working on a special project: music and dance from the Frisian heathland villages, based on 19th-century descriptions and old recordings made there in the early 20th century. Because it was a relatively isolated and impoverished region, it developed a culture all its own, rooted in the distant past.

Marita Kruijswijk: vocals, flutes, shawm, and crumhorn.
Rutger Dijkstra: vocals, guitars, cittern, and violin
Ad Bos: vocals, percussion, and keyboards
