The Vengaboys are a Dutch dance act that scored major hits both in the Netherlands and abroad between 1997 and 2000. In 2010, the group made a comeback. The Vengaboys’ music falls under the genres of dance-pop, Eurodance, and Eurohouse.
The Vengaboys’ first single, titled “Parada de tettas,” was released in the
summer of 1997. Initially, the story went that two DJs, Danski and DJ Delmundo, were causing a stir on the beaches of Spain in an old school bus. Along the way, they supposedly picked up four singers—two men and two women—each from a different country. Chaos reportedly broke out regularly during their illegal performances because the band members would throw banknotes into the audience. Furthermore, the police were said to be hot on their heels, and master tapes were reportedly stolen. However, this image is based on made-up stories.[1] It wasn’t until after a few singles had been released that it became clear that Dennis van den Driesschen was the man behind Danski and Wessel van Diepen was the man behind DJ Delmundo. The name Vengaboys was coined during a recording session for the earlier project Nakatomi, during which a Spanish guest singer repeatedly sang the word “venga.” The casting and composition of the stage act during the period 1997–2000 were handled by Wendelien van Diepen.
