The Fascinating Groove Band was founded in 2021 by double bassist and jazz organizer Gerhard ten Hoopen. The purpose of this band is to play pieces with a nice groove, which are certainly recognizable by the audience, but which you don't hear much anymore. This band is really grafted to play at festivals. Case in point: Walk Tall (Cannonball Adderley - Joe Zawinul), The In Crowd (Ramsey Lewis), Watermelon Man, (Herbie Hancock), Sister Sadie (Horace Silver), as well as Spooky's Day Off (Swinging Soul Machine) et al.
Vocalist Jane Goulding's disarming performance is also an important part, with very swinging and bluesy pieces. The Fascinating Groove Band generates much enthusiasm with the audience. In a few words, a wonderful band!

The Fascinating Groove Band

JANE GOULDING - vocals, is a very talented singer who played in many bands like for example The Livin' Blues Exp. with Niko Christiansen, Pagaja, she recently performed on Dutch television in 'Battle of the Bands' with the Rolling Stones tribute band 'Exile'. The Fascinating Groove Band is very happy to have her in the band, as Jane has proven to be able to sing different styles, such as pop, blues, but also jazz! With her excellent stage presence, Jane is the perfect singer at a festival or other performances.
PIETER VAN SANTEN - piano, is a well-known pianist who has played with Frits Landesbergen, Joke Bruijs, Scott Hamilton, John Engels, Harry Emmery, Boris van der Lek, and many other jazz artists.
Besides the Fascinating Groove Band, Pieter is asked to play in various combinations. He also recorded 2 CDs Van Santen Zingt Zelf.
RUUD PEPER - trumpet, was once one of the best students of the famous Ellister van der Molen. Ruud played, among others, in the Liquid Sun Orchestra, a band akin to the music of Fela Kuti. Ruud also plays in Bobby's Big Band. He is an indispensable link in the band!
JACCO VAN SANTEN - alto saxophone, studied in New York with Vincent Herring and Tim Armacost and performed at The Blue Note, Café Smalls. He plays regularly in Paulus Schäfer's gypsy band, - The Herman Nijkamp/Jacco van Santen Quartet (with his brother Pieter). Jacco played with Rosa King, Adrianne West, Greetje Kauffeld, Jan Menu and Francien van Tuinen.
GERHARD TEN HOOPEN - double bass, started his lessons with Frans Bouwmeester, is founder of The Fascinating Groove Band. He played at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague in 1993 with his former band "Jazz Support". With this band they recorded the CD "I Thought About You." Were runner-up at the Leiden Jazz Concours. As bassist and jazz promoter, he received the Zoetermeer Culture Award 2008. In 2015 Gerhard was awarded a Royal Decoration for his jazz contributions. In 1998, he started Fascinating Jazz - a venue in Zoetermeer, which is now labeled as the coziest jazz club in the Netherlands.
Gerhard is owner of Fascinatingjazzradio.nl - a worldwide listened to smooth jazz 24/7 radio station on the Internet.
RON LEZER - guitar. Ron is a guitarist with 35 years of experience ; he has Indian roots and has played with Chazzy Green (USA), Eric Vloeimans, Philip Harper (USA), Big Band Licks and Brains, Benjamin Herman and many others. Ron is familiar with all kinds of styles such as funk, soul, blues, smooth jazz and fusion.
DOLF HELGE - drums Dolf Helge began his career in jazz music at a young age. As a jazz drummer, he has played in various musical ensembles since the age of 17. In 1991, Dolf Helge founded Jazz Café de Bierkelder, where he provided jazz music in addition to catering, both as an organizer and as a jazz drummer.
Dolf played with many first-class jazz artists: a.o. Frits Kaatee, Anke Angel, Bernard Berkhout, Hans Mantel, Harry Kanters, Scott Hamilton, Louis van Dijk, Boris van der Lek and many others.
