Esther Vergeer is a former wheelchair tennis player and wheelchair basketball player. From April 1999 to January 2013, she continuously occupied first place in the world wheelchair tennis rankings. Esther as a former wheelchair tennis player one of the most successful Dutch athletes of all time. For 14 years (between 1999 and 2013), for example, she topped the world rankings. In total, she won the Paralympic Games 7 times and was voted best paralympic athlete in the world no less than 5 times. Esther won the Laureus World Sports Award in 2002 and 2008. She was also named an honorary citizen of her hometown of Woerden in 2013. Esther founded her own Esther Vergeer Foundation and released a book entitled ''Strength & Vulnerability''.
