The quartet in its current line-up was founded in 2020 and saw a gap in the market in the field of live events and wedding music. Due to the previous success in their home base Perth, Western Australia, the quartet decided to make a new start in the Netherlands and thus bring their knowledge to the whole world.

The "Twist" in QWAT's name stands for their unique instrumentation - instead of the standard two violins, viola and cello, the cello has been replaced by a double bass! As a result, QWAT's sound is unique and sets them apart from other string quartets.
