Party & Folk Singer Richard van der Weide is an all-around singer who always gives 150% of himself. With a repertoire ranging from Dutch-language songs to rock ’n’ roll, from country to sentimental ballads, and from reggae to pirate anthems, Richard can really sing just about anything!

It’s no wonder he’s the “most booked” singer in Groningen!!!

Richard, a party singer from Groningen, developed a love for music at a young age thanks to his family; in the late 1970s, his mother had a secret radio station, and Dutch songs filled their living room every day.

In the years that followed, pirate parties were regularly organized, and even at a very young age, Richard was a welcome guest, singing along at the top of his lungs to the songs being played. Richard also frequently participated in numerous talent shows and won many prizes.

Starting at age 10, Richard sang every Saturday at the “Paddepoel” shopping center in Groningen as a street singer, and even back then he was regularly asked to perform at parties and celebrations.

Around the age of 14, Richard stopped performing—not, as so many do, because of “voice changes,” but because the “industry” in which he had been promised a record deal dozens of times wasn’t quite what he had imagined. Although he no longer performed professionally during those years, at the weddings and parties he attended, the proverbial blood still ran where it couldn’t be stopped, and Richard regularly grabbed the microphone to entertain family, friends, and acquaintances.

After performing a wide variety of jobs for various “bosses,” Richard opened his own bar in 1999, and there, too, he regularly sang his heart out and was soon nicknamed “the singing bartender.” Of course, fellow artists also frequently performed at Richard’s bar, and they encouraged him when he decided in late 2003 to sell the bar so he could get back into music.

Since then, singer Richard has become a highly sought-after performer in Groningen’s hospitality scene; whether it’s a student party, a senior citizens’ club, or anything in between, Richard always knows how to turn every performance into a big party.
