Music illuminates a farewell. A live performance often gives extra space to feeling and offers comfort. No big band is needed for that. Maybe not.
Eva de Mooij is a singer-songwriter and music therapist. She regularly sings at commemorative meetings and funerals. Prior to this, she discusses her musical contribution to the programme. This can vary from a single song (sung à capella) to a number of songs, in which she accompanies herself on the piano.
Do the vocals and music in the videos appeal to you and are you looking for someone who thinks along with you about the musical interpretation of your moment of farewell? Discuss your wishes in the request!
Eva searches with you for songs that are fitting such as the Stone (Bram Vermeulen), May I join you (Claudia de Breij), the Rose (Bette Midler) or the Ave Maria by Bach
(version Gun Gold) but also almost always almost (Daniel Lohues), Somewhere (West Side story) or Dit is het moment (translation by Danny Boy)
Possibly Eva can also perform her own songs, such as 'You are quiet' and 'The rainbow bird'. These come from a series of her own compositions around themes such as mourning and farewell, specially made for the collection 'Verstilde Woorden' (Silent Words). This collection (and its successor: 'The joy of listening') was published in collaboration with Marinus van den Berg at ten Have and the films give a foretaste of this.
As a music therapist, Eva knows that music serves as support when you say goodbye. Apart from the musical moment at farewell, for her it is just as much about the search for the appropriate music.
