The trio "Harmonica in between" was founded in June 2013 and aims to perform jazz in an accessible way in an atmosphere reminiscent of (classical) chamber music.
As a result, there is a lot of opportunity for interaction and familiar pieces also get something special.
The trio is formed by Joost van der Hoeven, (chromatic harmonica), Bass Kisjes, (double bass) and Henk Sprenger, (guitar).
Joost van der Hoeven has been playing classical and later jazz piano since he was 9 years old. Twenty years ago he discovered the chromatic harmonica and besides his profession as a child psychiatrist he dedicated himself to a professional career on this instrument. In the past ten years he took theory and improvisation lessons with Bert van der Brink, Bart van Lier and Ack van Rooyen, among others. He plays in various ensembles.
Bas Kisjes started studying bass guitar at the Alkmaar
Conservatory with Joel Groenewold.
In 2003 he was admitted to the conservatory of The Hague. There he studied double bass with Hein van der Geyn, Frans van der Hoeven and Uli Glazmann.
At the moment he is a bass player in a number of ensembles and accompanies a number of theatre groups. Furthermore he does a lot of freelance work as bassist and composer
Henk Sprenger studied classical clarinet at the Rotterdam Conservatory.
He played 'guitar' in various (radio) orchestras and jazz formations and taught 'jazz guitar' and 'ensemble playing' at various conservatories.
He still teaches at the Young Talent class of the Amsterdam Conservatory.
