Merle clearly gets her inspiration from the cabaret of the sixties and seventies.

No frills for Merle: her voice, her guitar and the Dutch language, that's all she needs. Anyone who gives a song the title Discolored Curtain deserves nothing but praise from us. “Look, rats eat my toes,” Merle sings, looking listener straight in the eye. Her lyrics are strong, her voice sounds so vulnerable – or wait, actually it's the other way around: you have to be strong to be so vulnerable. (via Merle Scorpio)
