Michael Bleekemolen is a former Formula 1 driver. He was responsible for introducing karting to mainland Europe, thereby making it possible for racing enthusiasts to drive spectacular race cars at the Zandvoort Circuit.
Bleekemolen began his career in karting over 40 years ago. In 1976, he became champion in the Dutch Formula Ford series. In 1977, he made the switch from Formula Super Vee to the prestigious Formula 1. He drove once for the March team and four times for the ATS team. On four occasions, he failed to qualify. In the United States Grand Prix, he retired on the 43rd lap.
The following year, he began racing in Formula 3, where he won three races. In the overall standings, he
finished second once, behind Alain Prost. After that, he switched to touring cars. To this day, he remains active in that series with his Team Bleekemolen.
In 1993, Bleekemolen opened the first indoor karting track in the Netherlands. He now owns three karting tracks in Amsterdam, Delft, and Mijdrecht. Bleekemolen also organizes racing courses at the Zandvoort circuit.
