Everywhere Laura Fygi goes she is still an exotic apparition. In homeland Holland they know her as the woman who grew up in Uruguay as the daughter of an Egyptian belly dancer, in the Far East she is the emancipated western lady who many would like to be. But wherever she stands, one thing is the same everywhere: the one from thousands of recognizable voices with which she stole many hearts worldwide.

Laura has performed all over Europe, South America and Asia. As a Dutch singer she even managed to conquer the Chinese market, a unique achievement!

Surprises are typical for a performer who has reinvented himself many times. Since her dance hits with girl group Centerfold, in the early eighties, Laura has walked many musical paths. Jazz, Latin, chansons, no genre is strange to her. "I hate pigeonholes," says the versatile diva. "I'm always looking for something new because I don't think you should do things twice. I hate rut." This idiosyncratic search for innovation resulted in collaborations with such greats as Toots Thielemans, Michel Legrand and Michael Franks. She also won an Edison, received several gold and platinum records and played the leading role in her favourite musical Victor/Victoria in Singapore.

In 2012 she signed a contract with one of the largest Chinese record companies and in 2013 she released the CD Flower, which was made especially for the Asian market. With original Chinese compositions that Laura interpreted in her very own way. A number of pieces were translated into English and French, but she also sings four pieces in Chinese!

What's the secret of her success? That's the combination of a number of things. First of all, she can sing fantastic. A husky voice with a beautiful diction and fantastic timing, which has already been compared to Peggy Lee's, and the intimacy of Julie London. She has an international charisma that allows her to perform at Ronnie Scott's Jazz club in Soho with the same ease as she does at the biggest venues in almost every city in the world. She looks beautiful and is as Latin as Jazzy. But the most important thing is that Laura is a storyteller, someone who knows how to turn a song into a story that touches yours straight from the heart. While it also swings like a train!

In 2015 Laura celebrated her 25th anniversary as a solo artist, but there is still no sign of stopping. She used to be under contract with Universal Music Nederland, now her career has moved to the Asian part of the world. And so the next step was a logical one... She recently signed a worldwide record deal with Universal Music in Asia and this year a brand new CD will be released under the title Jazz Love. The CD contains popular pop songs that Laura has given her own sauce... Arrangements written in her style, bossa, swing, soft jazz, giving songs by Sade, the Beatles, Alicia Keys and Don McLean a whole new dimension!

And there's a tour with Danny Malando's Trio on the agenda, a very surprising combination! It promises to be a very varied performance with a lot of humour and interaction with the audience.
