About Marcel

The Hague singer Marcel de Rooij learned to play guitar and sing at the age of 6 from his grandfather Bart Deligne, who in turn was also a musician and singer. During Marcel's secondary school period at the H.A.V.O. he sang in the school band after which he started his education at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he studied jazz vocals.

During his education he regularly worked as a singer in various cover bands and jazz combos from the Randstad. Marcel played in several musicals, including Grease in the role of Roger and Jesus Christ Superstar in which he played the role of Judas.

Marcel has also worked as a singer in various dinner shows including the Seventies Dancefever Show and American Dream Show in Theaterrestaurant de Ster in Nieuwkuijk.

In the first six months of 2003 Marcel was part of the cast of the theater show La Vie en Rose, with Liesbeth List and the orchestra of the Royal Air Force Band, with which he performed in over 40 major theaters in the Netherlands together with an international company of singers who have earned their spurs in the musical and theater world, and he rocked the house night after night with his solo Herman Brood song Saturdaynight.

In the field of entertainment he has gained extensive experience with, among others, the duo M & M. They had their working area on the boulevard of Scheveningen.

Marcel also worked a number of summer seasons in Spain, Curacao and Bonaire. There he was active as a singer and entertainer at Dutch bars and dancings including the Malle Molen and the Heinekenhoek in Salou and Cafe de Tropen and Mambo Beach on Curacao.

Besides being a good entertainer, Marcel also has a very large vocal range. In April 2000 he was one of the participants in the Hennie Huisman Soundmixshow on RTL 4. Here he reached the finals and eventually became 6th with the song of the Rightious Brothers Unchained Melody.

In May 2004 Marcel performed for 4 consecutive days in the Amsterdam Arena where he sang for an audience of 60,000 people and was the support act for Rene Froger's show together with the other singers of the Amsterdam Cafe Bolle Jan.

Marcel has also often been the support act for other famous Dutch artists such as Rob de Nijs, Wolter Kroes, Jan Smit and Peter Beense, proving that in terms of singing and entertainment Marcel is not inferior to the famous artists from the Netherlands.
