Avant Garden bestaat uit Maxime en Lucas, twee muzikanten die elkaar vonden in hun liefde voor alternatieve muziek. Hun ontmoeting op een muziekfestival bleek het begin van een bijzondere samenwerking en zo kwamen ze tot het idee samen muziek te gaan spelen. De klik was er meteen, mede doordat ze afzonderlijk van elkaar jarenlange ervaring hebben met optreden en muziek maken in verschillende settings.
Maxime en Lucas zijn beiden professioneel geschoolde muzikanten die al lang actief zijn in het werkveld. Maxime is naast zangeres ook actrice. Ze heeft haar roots in de theaterwereld en tourt in het dagelijks leven door Nederland met musical- en theatervoorstellingen. Lucas is een songwriter en multi-instrumentalist die al jaren optreedt met verschillende bands. Daarnaast heeft hij zijn soloproject waar hij meerdere EP’s mee uitbracht.
Avant Garden speelt voornamelijk de juweeltjes van de vroegere jaren. Denk aan Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Fleetwood Mac en Kate Bush. Maar ook de modernere nummers komen voorbij, van artiesten als John Mayer en Wilco. Deze liedjes worden met authentiek gitaarspel en veel meerstemmigheid op een sterke, maar intieme manier gespeeld.

Het optreden van Avant Garden tijdens mijn verjaardagsfeest bleek een schot in de roos. Genieten van goede muziek blijkt weldegelijk goed samen te kunnen gaan met gezellig onderling bijpraten. Veel spontane positieve reacties van de feestgangers over het optreden van de band, echt een aanrader dus!

Avant Garden provided beautiful background music during dinner at our wedding. When a few more people had gone home and more and more attention was focused on the music they responded nicely by moving from the background more into the foreground and adding some extra atmosphere. There was even some spontaneous dancing (we didn't have a dance floor/dance party). Thanks for the beautiful evening!

IVY has played 2 acoustic sets on our builoft, completely to our wishes! It sounded good and brought a relaxed atmosphere, the interaction between the 2 acoustic guitars and the singing was beautiful (and what a beautiful singing Famke can do!). Highly recommended!

Nice sound, good voices, nice duo, great songs and relaxed atmosphere. Good addition to our wedding. From our beanbags in the chill corner we were really enjoying and shining. We also did a lovely dance. Matched very well with our setting of the day. Highly recommended and we are going to remember them for the next party.

IVY was truly unforgettable. We celebrated life and love, and as music freaks, the right sound was essential for us. We wanted authentic and pure. We wanted music with capital letters. Real music. We were very happy when we finally found IVY on the internet among many sadly voiced cliché cover bands and heard in the fragments what they could do. We were even happier when they exceeded our expectations live. What can these people play and sing! Not only we but also our guests were very impressed by the great musicality, the purity, and the beautiful own sound. It's very special how Lucas and Famke, beautifully played together, give memorable existing songs a new look. In doing so, they didn't violate the soul of the song, but rather let the songs regularly rise above themselves. They had two songs, 'our' songs, rehearsed for us. So beautiful and touching, they came even closer than the original artist. The sober setting, without too many bells and whistles, but 'just' paying attention to the power of the song, fitted perfectly with the summery and relaxed festival atmosphere that we had in mind. Lucas and Famke themselves also fitted in seamlessly. They turned out to be very warm and modest people with a visible enthusiasm for what they do On the day itself there were already many guests asking who these musicians were. We told them proudly about them. Their names were written down. Our group of friends consists of many real music lovers and they were and still are full of praise about IVY and determined to remember their name in case they are going to give a party. Lucas and Famke played and sang directly through the skin and in the heart that day. (This review has gotten a bit out of hand in terms of length)
