Met zijn theatrale band Lieve Bertha balanceert hij tussen pop en kleinkunst. Ze wonnen de publieksprijs van de Grote Prijs van Nederland, speelden op landelijke radio en televisie en deden vier avondvullende theatertours. Ook stonden ze op Paaspop en Oerol. Met zijn solo cabaret onder eigen naam won hij de publieksprijs van het Utrechts Kleinkunstfestival en het Zuid

Met de Tante Joke Karaokeband, speelde hij in bijna alle grote popzalen van het land en op festivals zoals Pinkpop en het Bevrijdingsfestival Zeeland. Ook is hij een veelgevraagd trouwambtenaar voor mensen die een humoristische speech op maat zoeken. Tot slot is hij dagvoorzitter, presentator en maakt hij cabaret op maat. Hij gewerkt voor klanten zoals o.a.: Lowlands, Graceland Festival, Kunstbende, Vrienden van Amstel, Smeerboel Festival, Nationale Nederlanden, NPO, Gemeente Amsterdam etc..
Als je Berend Koen boekt, verwacht dan iemand die goed zijn best doet om info te verzamelen en altijd goed voorbereid naar zijn optredens komt terwijl hij ook een ster is in improviseren. Zijn optredens zijn respectvol zonder soft te worden en Berend Koen weet als geen ander te ontcijferen waar de gevoeligheden liggen. During the Evening of Chemistry of the Royal Dutch Chemical Society, Berend Koen and Willem provided a performance brimming with energy and skill. Especially for this occasion they wrote new songs full of humor, content and surprising chemical winks. Although they are not chemists themselves, they managed to completely touch the audience with their carefully prepared cabaret, in which Berend Koen had visibly immersed himself in the perception of the society. The audience responded enthusiastically, with laughter, recognition and loud applause. A brilliantly balanced mix of music, science and fun. Absolutely recommended!

I booked Berend Koen for a festival this August. Koen feels the venue very well and knows how to respond perfectly to what is going on around him. He incorporates fun elements into his shows such as making funny variations of well-known songs. Highly recommended.

Berend Koen knows what to do to get the audience's attention in a fun way. Give him a big stage and he does, but he also manages to give a small improvised stage the feel of a festival, he makes sure your show starts well and that the performers feel at ease. Berend Koen also knows how to connect very well with the beautiful, special people that we at The Salvation Army mentor and give a stage to, and certainly not every host manages to do that.

What if you if you keep talking in circles? And as a result get completely stuck in ingrained patterns and old cows? Then it's time to do things differently. With that motto, I organized a farewell meeting for a large municipal department. Employees were given every opportunity to say goodbye in their own way to old ways of working and past pain. A large number chose to be guided by Berend Koen and Willem. Their lightness, humor and musicality were enormously contagious. They laughed and sang so loudly that there were even complaints: if they could turn it down a bit! Berend Koen knows very well how to connect and create a setting that challenges and relieves. And that was exactly what was needed!

I recently participated in a super fun workshop by Berend Koen at the town hall in Doorn. Themes were creating a humorous wedding speech as well as engaging the audience during this official part of the ceremony. I am very enthusiastic; Berend Koen offered practical tips and strategies for writing a catchy, sometimes funny speech, where interaction with the audience was central. Berend Koen is simply experienced, knowledgeable and very enthusiastic, which made the workshop informative and, most importantly, informal. The hands-on exercise helped me spark my creativity and, as a result, I can make my future speeches a little looser and more humorous. What I especially liked was the emphasis on creating a positive vibe, not being afraid of making jokes which automatically engages the audience and thus not just being there as a spectator. All in all, I can heartily recommend the workshop to anyone looking for tips & examples in preparing an unforgettable wedding speech and at the same time having fun contact with the audience. It was a fun afternoon with Berend Koen, especially the jokes that break the ice have stayed with me, I will definitely use them in the future.

From this rather formal part of the day, Berend Koen knows how to create a togetherness in which, with lots of humor and talent for words and timing, he gets everyone involved. Berend Koen was a great host at our Salvation Army Christmas parties. We celebrated Christmas together with our participants, with chain partners and our colleagues. A motley crew and Berend Koen made sure it was one big party everywhere. With his enthusiasm, commitment and ability to sense the room and all those different people, he created atmosphere, energy, safety and space. But above all, he provided connection. And that connection was exactly why we celebrate these Christmas parties. In preparation and on the evenings themselves, Berend Koen was very flexible, it was easy to switch gears and he was a fine sparring partner in terms of content. He celebrated with us, kept a good sense of what was needed and responded accordingly. For the next event we will definitely find Berend Koen again!
