Swinging music in a pleasant atmosphere! From Elvis to Dave Brubeck and from Doris Day to Fats Domino. Timeless and unforgettable music, where now, 60 years later, the energy still splashes from! Suitable for a 50-year wedding party, opening of an exhibition, garden party etcetera. We can also perform outside at this time thanks to a tent with heating that we can put anywhere (needed: 9 m2).
WHAT WE DO:
The repertoire offers highlights from Jazz, Swing, Rhythm & Blues and Rock 'n Roll.
In addition, the Alto Quartet has put together a unique program especially for those who experienced their youth in the 1950s to 1970s under the title:
The Retro Project:
"Back to the Fifties and the Swinging Sixties"
From Elvis to Dave Brubeck and from Doris Day to Fats Domino. Timeless and unforgettable music that now, 60 years later, still radiates energy! The reactions are unanimously enthusiastic, which in turn has led to invitations to perform at the Dutch embassy in Washington DC and the New Jewish Home in Manhattan, New York, among other places!
The Alto Quartet also has a number of Stevie Wonder songs on its program.
The
Alto Quartet gave its first performance on March 31, 2017 at the last concert in the illustrious jazz cafe Alto in downtown Groningen. Hugo Beukema owned and operated the café and is also a saxophonist in the Alto Quartet. Unfortunately the café has disappeared but the Alto Quartet is the living legacy: Swinging music in a pleasant ambiance! Since this memorable performance, the Alto Quartet has given over 100 performances, both indoors and outdoors and in church and pub. (Jazz festivals, Museum Night, Art manifestations, Care institutions, etc.)
Hans Bosch - tenor saxophone/clarinet/arrangements
An old hand in the business, for 40 years he performed on all the jazz stages in Groningen and far beyond (Quadro Sax, Jumping the Blues, Baritone Madness, Beau Hunks and others)
Julia Flenter - baritone saxophone/vocals/arrangements
Plays lead alto with the Moonlight Bigband , is the solid base with the Alto quartet and is also blessed with a beautiful voice
Jan Schoemaker - alto saxophone/ flute
Saxophone teacher Jan Schoemaker is a versatile saxophonist and flutist in Groningen.
As a performing musician he works in both classical and jazz-pop and latin music.
He played a.o. solo concerts with the NNO and worked with Joop van den Ende in musicals. He plays in the Noordpool Orchestra, and in many smaller ensembles in various styles.
As a saxophone, flute and ensemble teacher he works at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen.
Hugo Beukema - tenor saxophone
Possibly appreciated in the Groningen music circuit because of his efforts to provide a stage for numerous national and international jazz musicians. Thereby always recognizable by his beautiful lived-in saxophone sound and as jazz journalist Eddie Determeyer put it "probably of all the Dutch hospitality operators the world's best saxophonist."
