From festive swinging performance, to intimate listening evening!
With 3 solo voices and a powerful singing together we bring a mix of 60's and 70's songs and Folk.
Who we are:
Ernst Langhout and the Retro's has been around since 2017, the three band members are old timers in the business
We play Scottish and Irish Folk, interspersed with a mix of songs from the 60s and 70s (no covers but our own interpretation of the songs), combined with songs written by the band members.
All band members function alternately as solo vocalists. This way we can play a very wide range of songs. At the same time we are able to create a powerful harmony with the three strong solo voices. The contribution of Dick Siersema's blues-playing in the Folk-songs gives a unique sound to these songs. All this in combination with our enthusiasm, gives us the possibility to
take care of a festive swinging performance, but also for an intimate listening evening.

The Band Members:
The band consists of Ernst, his brother Sjirk Langhout and Bone Idle (Dick Siersema)
They can draw from a very broad repertoire built up over the years. There are pearls from the (Irish) folk, jewels from the 60's and 70's, diamonds from their own hand, Dylan yn it Frysk and with Bone Idle there also can be gold from his hand flying by
Despite the diverse styles, the men have found each other in their shared love of acoustic music. That's why in 2017, after an ad-hoc performance at a festival, they decided to form a band
The three strong solo voices know how to put down a powerful harmony song. All this is carried by guitars, bodhran and harmonicas
The key figure in the new formation is Ernst Langhout (vocals/guitar/12 string guitar/mouth organ). He can boast of a varied musical career, which in forty years' time has brought him into contact with many different styles of music in many different places in the world. From traditional folk (Haggis and Manacle Trust) to hard alternative rock and new wave (The Visitor); from Âldtsjerk to Austin (Texas), from Moddergat to Moscow and of course, Ireland and Scotland
The dyed-in-the-wool troubadour Bone Idle (vocals/guitar/bass guitar/mouth organ/metal detector) started his career as a street singer in Amsterdam in the early 80s. Since then, he has also played a long series of gigs in bars, at festivals and parties. He released two cd's, "Koffie Bone ?" and "Fell over Bone" which were recorded by Jan Switters in the Landscape studio (in Ernst's farm). For some time he also played harmonica in the recently disbanded BX-Bluesband
Sjirk Langhout (vocals/guitar) the younger brother of Ernst has never made music his profession, but when the opportunity arose, Sjirk did perform together with his brother. His sonorous voice and driven vocals are a valuable addition to the band.
