The circus theatre duo Meatball & van de Camp has an excellent way of making classics accessible to a large audience. After King Lear and Oidipoes, they now opted for the primeval Dutch drama Op hoop van blessing by Herman Heijermans. The fish flies around your ears and as an audience you are carried away in a stormy acrobatics.
The Story
Barend and Geert, sons of Kniertje, are different: one is a rebellious sailor, the other a timid dreamer. They long to go their own way, away from the bourgeois and poor fishing village.
Can you do that?
But it's not that easy. They can't escape the almighty shipowners Bos & Bos and have to board the ship 'De Hoop'. But is the old ship actually still able to withstand the irrepressible autumn storms?
Freedom
How do Barend and Geert get out of this fight? A story about the sea, about brothers, about mothers and sons, about bosses and suckers, about freedom and guts, fears and dreams.
The performance is divided into 3x30 minutes within 3 hours.
