Looking for a Tropical party? Yakki Famirie will provide the perfect sound for an unforgettable summer performance! Party guaranteed!

Yakki Family is founded in Rotterdam from the kaseco orchestra Latinos from Suriname. The group, in this period led by composer/band leader/saxophonist Theo Swanenberg, focuses on pale kaseko (a mix of pale music from East Suriname and kaseko from the coast), but also eagerly experiments with Latin and traditional Surinamese kawina (party music) and (Afro-Surinamese) ritual winti. The result is tight, exhilarating dance music, with a leading role for the brass players, typical skratjie (bass drum) rhythms and African question-answer singing in Aucaan, one of the languages of the Maroons.

1987: Yakki Family is founded in Rotterdam from the kaseco orchestra Latinos from Suriname. The group, led by Dagga and Franky, focuses on pale kaseko (a mix of pale music from East Suriname and kaseko from the coast), but also eagerly experiments with Latin and traditional Surinamese kawina (party music) and (Afro-Surinamese) ritual winti. The result is tight, exhilarating dance music, with a leading role for the brass players, typical skratjie (bass drum) rhythms and African question-answer singing in Aucaan, one of the languages of the Maroons.
1988 - 1992
The group is very successful in the (Surinamese) wedding and party circuit and makes - outside the regular circuit - several cassettes and CD's, of which thousands are sold.

Yakki Family Yakki Family contributes to the compilation Switi (Hot! Kaseko Music) published by Stichting Popmuziek Nederland. The CD also contains songs by Carlo Jones and The Surinam Troubadours, among others.

1999
At the beginning of the year the surprising CD Gowtu is released, the debut for a plant label (World Connection). The album is produced by the Cuban bandman Manolito Simonet and therefore has a striking Cuban sound. Guest contributions are made by jazz singer Denise Jannah, the originally Venezuelan percussionist Gerardo Rosales and the R&B band Replay. The CD includes a Dutch version of Blaka Rosoe, a classic by Lieve Hugo and a kaseco version of Oye Mi Canto by Gloria Estefan. The press coverage of the CD has resulted in the band performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in July.

2000 - 2001
Yakki Family is present at the Mixt Racism Beat It-festival and at the Liberation Festival in Amsterdam. The single Ding Ding Ding is a collaboration with the duo Ross & Iba.

2008
Where the 1999 album Gowtu is aimed at audiences for world music, Yakki Family focuses on the CD Back In Time: Asentele on the dance audience that the band attracts in the local and regional Surinamese/Dutch/Hindustani party circuit. The CD contains, among other things, two medleys with old hits and six new songs that are a great success during performances, including the title track Asentele. Before the CD is officially released there is an illegal version with work recordings in circulation under the misleading title The Yakky's Live.
